Utah Drug Distribution Attorney - Salt Lake Criminal Defense

Utah drug distribution charges are not restricted to the major dealers. In Utah, even sharing a joint with a friend can result in being charged with distribution of a controlled substance. Stephen Howard is an experienced Utah criminal defense attorney who has successfully handled thousands of serious felony and misdemeanor charges. He has the experience to help you get the results you need.

Consequences of a Drug Distribution Charge in Utah

Criminal Defense Lawyer Utah - Salt Lake Drug DistributionPenalties for drug distribution charges in Utah apply not just to the stereotypical drug dealer. And the difference in penalties imposed by courts for drug distribution can be severe. Having an experienced criminal attorney is critical.

The difference in consequences between a simple possession charge and a drug distribution case can be dramatic. For example, Utah law punishes simple possession of marijuana beginning at the class B misdemeanor level. Marijuana distribution or possession with the intent to distribute increases the severity of the crime to a third degree felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison. Distribution of most other common street drugs or prescription drugs begins at the second degree felony level, punishable by up to 15 years prison. If the offense occurs in a drug free zone, the charge can be enhanced to a first degree felony, punishable by up to life in prison.

Most people associate "distribution" charges only with "drug dealers." But Utah statutes on drug distribution apply equally both to a person who buys a little extra to share with a friend and also to a person who is regularly buying and selling for profit.

Whether you intend to fight your criminal case all the way to trial, or want to try to work out a negotiated resolution, you will benefit greatly by having an experienced attorney on your side.  Stephen Howard has spent years defending some of the most serious drug charges in Utah.  He has extensive experience working with clients who are dealing with drug addiction. He is also one of only a few criminal lawyers in Utah with experience working inside Utah's felony drug court system.
